A Whimsical Waterfront Fairytale: Katie & Dustin’s Big Day at The Estate on the Halifax

There is a certain kind of magic that only exists at The Estate on the Halifax. Between the historic charm of the Chapel in the Garden and the whimsical surprises hidden throughout the 10-acre property, it was the perfect setting for Katie and Dustin’s romantic May wedding
As their coordinators at Weddings by Stephanie, we were honored to help bring every detail of this stunning day to life.

Romantic Details & Timeless Traditions
The day began with the couple’s beautiful invitation suite, captured perfectly by Jennifer Juniper Photography. Katie chose a soft palette of white and blue, with lush white peonies and delicate blue accents that carried through her bouquet and into the reception decor.

A Ceremony to Remember
The couple said their "I dos" in the iconic wooden chapel, a space that feels both grand and incredibly intimate. From the bird’s-eye view of their walk back up the aisle to the quiet, romantic portraits in front of the altar, the love between Katie and Dustin was palpable.
A Celebration Full of Character
One of our favorite things about The Estate on the Halifax is its unique photo ops. Katie and Dustin took full advantage, posing on the property’s miniature railroad tracks—a nod to the venue’s eclectic and historic charm.

The celebration continued in the Tavern, where the room was transformed with elegant white draping and warm, glowing light. Guests were treated to a classic "Just Married" cake and a night of dancing under the grand chandelier.

The Perfect Send-Off
The night concluded with a high-energy sparkler exit, a favorite tradition that never fails to provide that "happily ever after" glow. Watching Katie and Dustin head off into their new life together surrounded by their favorite people was the perfect end to a flawless day.

What's the history behind the Bridal Bouquet?

Brides carry bouquets for a mix of historical, symbolic, and practical reasons that have evolved over time. The tradition dates back to ancient times when bouquets weren’t always flowers. In ancient Greece and Rome, brides carried bundles of herbs like garlic, dill, or rosemary to ward off evil spirits and protect the couple from bad luck. These herbs were also thought to have medicinal or symbolic properties, like promoting fertility or love.

By the Middle Ages, bouquets started including flowers, but the practical reason was often to mask body odor, as bathing wasn’t as common. Strong-smelling herbs and flowers helped keep things pleasant during ceremonies.

Over time, as hygiene improved, the bouquet became more about aesthetics and symbolism. In the Victorian era, specific flowers gained meanings—roses for love, lilies for purity—turning bouquets into a kind of coded message about the bride’s intentions or virtues.

Today, bouquets are mostly a tradition rooted in these historical practices, serving as a beautiful accessory that complements the bride’s look and the wedding’s theme.

They also give brides something to hold, helping with nervous hands during the ceremony. Plus, the bouquet toss has become a fun ritual, symbolizing passing on good fortune to the next person to marry. So, it’s a blend of superstition, practicality, and style that’s stuck around for centuries.
